Overview of RTI for Colleges

  • Applicability: All government-aided colleges and government universities fall under the jurisdiction of the RTI Act.
  • Information Available:
    • Admission processes, fee structures, and available seats.
    • Number of faculty and staff (both academic and non-teaching).
    • Government grants received by the college and their utilization.
    • Details regarding scholarships.
  • Note on Private Colleges: While private unaided colleges may not fall directly under the Act, they are required to provide information if they are affiliated with a university or involved in government schemes.

How to Apply

To request information, you must submit a written or online application to the college’s Public Information Officer (PIO).+1

  • To Whom: Address your application to the PIO, who is typically the Vice-Principal or a Senior Professor.
  • Language: Applications can be submitted in Marathi, Hindi, or English.
  • Application Details: Your application must clearly state your name, address, and the specific information you are requesting.
  • Fees: A fee of ten rupees (₹10) must be paid via cash, postal order, or demand draft.+1
  • Where to Submit: Applications should be submitted at the college’s RTI Cell office or through the official website.

Timeline and Appeals

  • Response Time: You can expect to receive the requested information within thirty (30) days of filing the application.
  • First Appeal: If the information is not provided within the stipulated thirty days, you have the right to file a First Appeal.
